What We Believe

Our full statement of faith is available in the church office and is discussed in our New Member Workshop.

  • God is revealed to us in three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

    • Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who came into the world, lived a perfect life, and died on the cross as the atoning sacrifice for the sins of the world.

    • The Lord Jesus was buried and rose again on the third day. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

  • The Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are inspired by God, sufficient for faith and practice, and the final authority on all issues.

  • Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.

  • The urgent need to reach the lost with the good news of Jesus.

    • Men and women are created in the image of God.

    • All have sinned against God and need forgiveness and redemption.

    • Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, which consists of His true disciples who have trusted in Him as Savior and Lord.

    • The ordinances of the Church are the Lord’s Supper and believer’s Baptism.

  • Marriage is the covenant act of one man and one woman uniting together as husband and wife.

Our Mission

Our mission is to Show the world the Way, the Truth, and the Life of Jesus.
Our discipleship pathway consists of four habits. We make followers of Jesus who:

Gather to Worship

Our goal during Sunday services is to lead people to glorify the Lord because God is worthy of our wholehearted worship. We consider reaching people who do not know Jesus Christ personally to be one of our greatest responsibilities. Our Sunday services are for all people at all stages in their spiritual journey. A special effort is made to reach those who do not yet know Jesus as Savior and Lord.

4 Goals of Sunday Services:

  • Experience God. We believe church should be a place where people are in awe of God’s goodness and splendor.

  • Know God Better. We believe church should be a place where people grow in their knowledge of God and how the Bible applies to their daily lives.

  • Follow Jesus. We believe church should be a place where people can receive Jesus as Lord and begin following him.

  • Love one another. We believe church should be a place where people encounter genuine friendship and community.

“Be filled with the Spirit in the following ways: speak to each other with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs; sing and make music to the Lord in your hearts; always give thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; and submit to each other out of respect for Christ.”
Ephesians 5:18b-21 CEB

Grow in Community

We believe life change happens in the context of relationships. Life Groups have one simple purpose: bring people together to grow as followers of Jesus. God created us to live in community with others and it is only then that we can experience the full life He intends for us. “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.“
Proverbs 27:17 NIV

Give for the Kingdom

Give of Yourself

We believe followers of Jesus make a difference in the world and transform their local communities through humble service. Following Jesus means you will impact the culture and change lives for the kingdom. The goal of our IMPACT Team is to provide an opportunity for people to develop as a leader, fulfill their purpose, serve others, and impact the world through showing the love of Christ. We set aside Wednesdays to give special attention to IMPACT Team service, growth, and development.

“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
2 Corinthians 9:6-7 ESV

“Instead, we are God’s accomplishment, created in Christ Jesus to do good things. God planned for these good things to be the way that we live our lives.”
Ephesians 2:10 CEB

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.”
1 Corinthians 12:4–6 ESV

Financial Giving

We believe in contributing cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel throughout all nations. 10% of our church budget is given to the Cooperative Program of the Southern Baptist Convention. Most of these funds support ministries that share the good news of Jesus. We also have special offerings throughout the year that support global missions.

Go to the World

We believe in the power of the gospel to change lives and transform communities. Each person has a circle of influence and an ability to build meaningful relationships. We encourage our members to have gospel conversations where they share God's story with others. We also challenge our members to be engaged in global missions.

We encourage church members to have gospel conversations through relational storytelling. We introduce this method through the Share Anywhere course. The Share Anywhere method incorporates God's Story, Your Story, and Their Story in order to show intentional, biblical truth that speaks to the recurring themes in their lives.

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19-20 NIV

Our Vision

To cultivate a disciple making movement where our community and our world are transformed by the Gospel.

Our 5-year Vision Statement

1. Reach every neighborhood within a one mile radius of TVBC and other strategic neighborhoods.

2. Transform three institutions: school, hospital, and the foster care system.

3. Equip 500 leaders.

Reach. Transform. Equip.

A neighborhood is “reached” when…

  1. MOBILIZE: Believers are mobilized to the neighborhood.

  2. IDENTIFY: Persons of peace are identified in the neighborhood.

  3. GATHER: Story Groups are started.

  4. MULTIPLY: The Story Groups multiply and are self-sustaining.

An institution is “transformed” when…

  1. MOBILIZE: Believers are mobilized to the institution.

  2. IDENTIFY: Persons of peace are identified in the institution.

  3. SERVE: We have an ongoing presence within the institution.

  4. CHANGE: Our influence expands and impacts the culture of the institution.

A leader (disciple-maker) is “equipped” when… they graduate from a D2D course.

D2D Courses are small training groups that are designed to equip leaders (disciple-makers) to reach a specific, identified mission field. These groups learn how to Go, Look, Gather, Lead, Plant and Send.  Want to get involved?

Baptism

Confessing Jesus as Lord, and expressing this commitment through baptism, is the most important decision you’ll make in your life.

How do you know you’re ready to be baptized? You’re ready when you realize trying to do life on your own isn’t working, and you’ve turned to Jesus Christ in faith, confessed Him as Lord and Savior, and committed to follow Him. TVBC performs baptisms by immersion. Based on clear biblical direction, immersion is the proper mode of baptism. Recognizing that many of you were “sprinkled” as children or adults, we ask you to be immersed. Baptism by immersion doesn’t invalidate the importance of what parents or spiritual mentors did for you…it’s simply the next step in your spiritual journey. Immersion is a decision we make for ourselves as believers.

If you would like to take the next steps to be baptized, please complete our Baptism interest form and a minister will contact you.
